Hey Skwad!

So I've been dressing vintage (in particular the 1950s) for a while now, and it's always been something I've wanted to discuss on here, but I've worried that it's perhaps it's not something people would be interested in as its quite a niche topic, but at the end of the day, it's my blog, I'll rant and ramble 'bout what I like. So naturally, in stereotypical blogger fashion, of course, I felt the need to make a haul post! And, like most bloggers, I just wanna clarify this is all my own opinion (unfortunately I'm not famous enough to get any kind of sponsored posts, or ad revenue 😅)!

Giulietta Mini Gingham Swing Dress:

Rating: 10/10

Shop: Collectif (Like it? Click here!)

Okie-dokie, so this dress gives me ~serious~ Wendy Darling or Alice in Wonderland vibes in terms of colour, but in terms of style reminds me of Aurora’s peasant outfit?? Like I seriously want to walk barefoot through the forest in this dress carrying a wicket basket to pick berries with my animal friends. OR! Have a picnic and eat macarons, wearing bonnets and living out the #cottagecore fantasy (yes, IssyAttemptsArchaeology.com I’m looking at you). The cherry on top? It was only £19!!

Beret:

Rating: 10/10

Shop: Holland & Goose (Like it? Click here!)

So this was very lovingly gifted to me for Christmas by my dear friend IssyAttemptsArchaeology.com. Not only does the neutral colour mean that it can be used to accessorise so many outfits, but also the light cool-toned grey contrasts so nicely with my hair! But I've said this on Instagram and I'll say it again: this hat is never coming off, it makes me feel ~fancy~

Beat It Creep Raglan T-shirt:

Rating: 9/10

Shop: Vixen by Micheline Pitt (Like it? Click here!)

OHMIGAWD! I love this top so much!! I saw it floating around Pinterest ages ago and I knew, I KNEW, I needed it in my life. Nothing has ever made me feel like such a bada** (Which we all know is the furthest thing from my personality, but a girl can dream, can’t she?). Just imagine pairing this with a leather jacket and your sharpest grin on a night out? Bonus points for being able to know when someone’s not looking you in the eye based on if they’ve noticed your top has writing on.

Gingham Peddle Pushers

Rating: 8/10

Shop: Marks & Spencer

So these were actually given as a hand-me-down, so goodness knows if they will still be available. But these trousers give me serious Marilyn Monroe vibes (although my hair's more Lauren Bacall-ish in this photo, but I digress). These would be perfect if not, like most things, for the weather situation here in Britain! We have a few weeks of sun, then it goes straight back to rain :( Similar to the Beat It Creap Raglan T-Shirt, this outfit makes me feel like I could silence a man with a stare and a bit more on the pin-up side of 50's fashion than the sweet all-American teenager or the perfect suburban Mum side. Basically, this is my vintage equivalent of feeling like an "Insta Baddie". 😅

Paloma Cardigan (Black)

Rating: 8/10

Shop: Hell Bunny (Like it? Click here!)

So the cardigan I'm wearing in the above photo is also a vintage reproduction find, it's honestly so comfortable and goes with everything, able to be both an added layer or worn on its own as I am here. Also great for if you're short like me as the pattern at the bottom of the sleeves means that it's super adjustable for different arm lengths! Yay, size-inclusivity!!

Maggie Plain Swing Dress:

Rating: 8/10

Shop: Collectif (Like it? Click here!)

My plans for this dress consist of wearing its own during the summer or wearing it in the colder months as a pinafore (as I’m one of those people who are permanently cold). Any neutral colour will look nice underneath (although I found that when I paired it with a black undershirt I felt ever-so-slightly as if I belonged in The Bee Movie), but I decided to pair this with a white button-up and pearls, because to quote Jackie Kennedy:

“Pearls are always appropriate.”

Personally, I'd also pair this dress with a hair bow in a matching shade of yellow, but unfortunately, I don’t own one :(

So… I bet you’re wondering which Disney Princess this reminds me of (because clearly, this is both a recurring gag at this point and a legitimate query for me when choosing clothes)? In answer to that question, I feel like it's as if Belle’s ballgown and her peasant pinafore dress had a baby = this yellow pinafore dress!

Alexa Blackwatch Check Swing Skirt:

Rating: 8/10

Shop: Collectif (Like it? Click here!)

Not only does this skirt give me a chance to combine my vintage style with my #Slytherinpride, but this is also my FAVOURITE skirt for twirling in (which we all know is very high up in terms of criteria for buying skirts). I love suspender-style skirts and as an added bonus this skirt has POCKETS?! Could it possibly get any better? Why yes, it can! Due to either the skirt’s length or the fact that I am a certified midget, I actually have to hold my skirt as I gracefully ascend or descend the stairs, which you better believe makes me feel like a Disney Princess wearing a ballgown. That’s all I have to say.

Peaky Blinders Flat Cap Herringbone Grey:

Rating: 8/10

So I originally ordered this for my brother and ended up getting one for my father and myself (Not that we're in any sort of family-run gang...)! This is a really easy and cheap way to incorporate more vintage style into your wardrobe for a more tomboyish, teddy-boy/girl style as well as being historically accurate!

Connie Jumper (Mustard):

Rating: 7/10

Shop: Hell Bunny (Like it? Click here!)

J'adore a good sailor collar and pearls are a girl's best friend, so naturally I was completely obsessed with this jumper! It's super cosy and looks great with trousers, skirts, dungarees and everything in between, perfect either around the house or going uptown! ☺️

Carmen Starfish Top (Navy):

Rating: 7/10

Shop: Collectif (Like it? Click here!)

So this actually wasn’t a top I picked for myself, but one my mother suggested I’d look nice in and I AM SO GLAD she did! Not only is this dressy enough for nights out, but casual enough (or rather, what I consider to be casual wear 😅) to just pair with some black high-waisted skinnies and ballet flats (or even black peddle-pushers if you wanna go the whole hog with the vintage-ness, or maybe if its just summer). You may also think with the amount of Disney Princess comparisons I make, the starfishes would remind me of Ariel. But you’d be wrong. This top (weirdly) actually reminds me of Snow White, maybe it's the puffy sleeves, or maybe it's the fact it's dark blue and a corset, who knows?

Kira Coat (Red):

Rating: 7/10

Shop: Hell Bunny (Like it? Click here!) Pairing this with a flat cap or beret (see above!) is a one-way ticket to look very ~fancy~ and gives me serious 'French boarding school' vibes. This coat is not only perfect for the colder winter months but also smart enough for job interviews, school or university.

Brina Swing Dress:

Rating: 6/10

Shop: Collectif (Like it? Click here!)

Maybe it's because I’m a midget, but the dress doesn’t quite sit right on me. 😥 It said on the website that the skirt starts at the waist, but it seems to start at the hips for me? This creates this kind of dropped waist scenario, which I don’t think suits me all too well (although if anyone would like to disagree please let me know as I don’t feel very confident in this dress haha). As opposed to feeling like a Disney Princess, I actually feel like Cindy Lou Who from the Grinch or some kind of Christmas Elf. But oh well.

I apologise for most of these being mirror selfies, but what with COVID and all, I haven't really had much excuse to get all dolled up and get some proper pictures. But nonetheless, it was a post I wanted to make as I really don't want this blog to just be a graveyard for Stuff I've heard at Sixth Form or Texts I've received in Quarantine (with absolutely no context whatsoever 😉). If anyone's even vaguely bothered about this sort of content do let me know in the comments below.

Sending you all hugs and happiness,

XOXO Totally Twila
